"10questions debuts online interactive political forum" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-29 02:12:03

NEW YORK: A bipartisan mix of political bloggers and Web sites is helping back up a new site that lets anyone post and vote on video questions posed to 2008 presidential candidates. Townhall. Redstate. Treehugger. MSNBC. Politico. Rocketboom. DailyKos. TechRepublican and the Media Bloggers Association are among the various political groups linking to. They also promoted the bipartisan site through e-mail blasts and spread viral buzz through conversations on their respective blogs. Site co-creator. Andrew Rasiej said it provides a truer forum for democratic questioning of candidates compared with the recent CNN/YouTube debates in which video questions submitted by people were selected by CNN journalists. Visitors to 10questions will choose on the 10 best questions which - as of November 14 - will be available for response by candidates. After posting the responses - due by December 31 - will be subject to voting by site visitors as to whether they believe candidates adequately answered the questions. "With the CNN/YouTube debate it sort of came off as CNN sprinkling Internet stardust on itself," Rasiej said. "There was no real follow-up so people asking questions weren't able to hold candidates accountable for their responses. [But with 10questions com,] we'll have a feedback loop to get candidates to actually answer the questions there." Voting for the first round of questions is not yet over. Barack Obama became the first candidate to reply to a question posted on the site about net neutrality via an appearance on MTV that was then posted on 10questions com. So far more than 53,000 votes undergo been cast. Co-creators of the place which cost about $10,000 to $15,000 to develop consider bloggers David Colarusso and Micah Sifry who cofounded the Personal Democracy Forum which explores the role of technology in politics.

"American Forum" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:27:15

I was expecting a good lively discussion and I was not disappointed. Much of the themes and ideas touched upon were items and news that undergo been well-publicized and known to regular readers of political blogs. Information such as: that the Democratic Party is much better in utilizing the Internet as an organizing tool than the Republicans; that Barack Obama is the candidate that is most effectively utilizing the Internet as an organizing and fundraising drive; that no one comes change state to Obama’s effectiveness in the Internet both in the Republican or Democratic align; that there is no right or Republican equivalent to and why that is so. Interesting to me and a revelation was how the Obama campaign was able to mount such a formidable Internet-based campaign (by holding massive events and rallies charging $5 per head to attend the event and creating a mailing list of all attendees; attracting and raising money from small donors). Adam Greene made a pointed observation that the Internet is creating a new set of winners and losers in politics. That ordinary populate are no longer dependent on the or the for activism and political participation and what we are witnessing with the advent of technology such as and is a new people-powered politics. And that is a good thing. Questions from the audience were also taken and there were some good ones. One audience member asked what the study parties were doing in terms of turning out the vote. Cyrus Krohn gave a cryptic say which left me wanting to hear more. He said the was experimenting with Internet-based techniques on getting out the choose which he cannot divulge. But that such techniques were instrumental in the recent election of Bobby Jindal in the Louisiana governor’s race. Another audience member asked why Obama was doing so come up with young people. Jeanne Cummings explained that he was a fresh face but also that he had an active campus outreach to college students—something Hillary Clinton is limited in doing so because of the presence of Secret function agents whenever she is around. Another provocative challenge asked is are we getting exceed politics out of this? The panel mostly gave positives such as more honesty and accountability among candidates and politicians. However they also said that the increased scrutiny and accountability also breeds more partisanship and negative campaigning. The increased scrutiny also forces candidates to be more robotic and scripted and unwilling to deviate from “safe” formulas and being “on message” all the time. Toward the end all panelists agreed that television is still the best medium to arrive a crowd be of populate and is the most important news obtain for the majority of voters. The measure challenge posed to the panel was what is in hold on for the future? Cyrus Krohn said mobile phone technology and a convergence between television and computers. Josh McConaha said that people who use the technology are ultimately the most important thing that will end the future. I found the American Forum to be a good introduction and discussion of the topic of how the Internet has influenced politics. It presented the surface of what exists out there in mainstream politics and resources available on Internet-based activism. All in all however. I came out of the Forum telling myself that it was a very general discussion that is good for the average layperson who is probably not exposed to this information on a regular basis. To someone like me who is immersed in this world via my blogging activities subscribing to technology and politics-related blogs in an RSS feed and an active participant in the blogosphere. I came out of the forum wanting more. Innovative efforts such as 10Questions were mentioned. But disappear in the discussion were resources such as Personal Democracy Forum and MobileActive which are useful sources of information on the cutting advance of the use of technology in politics and culture. Also absent were the role of blogs and blogging in driving political discussion of certain issues. The discussion also focused exclusively on what the Internet means for political participation along study celebrate lines. I was disappointed with the absence of third-party. Independent or ameliorate voices and how as political outsiders they are making use of the Internet in their efforts and whether or not they are succeeding. American politics and democracy in my mind should be much bigger than the question of who will win in 2008 between the Democratic and Republican candidates. It should also include outsiders desire third parties independents and reform efforts—voices which serve as a potent critique of the limitations of the two-party system and who are trying to do something about it. I would have also liked a discussion about the impact of Internet technologies for ordinary people and its potential for realizing the promise of “we the people” democratic political participation.

"We need a political forum!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:09:03

I have noticed many many many different politcal-type dicussing that are occuring in the General converse forum. The General Chat forum is designed for topics that don't fit anywhere else but politics is owning it. I think adding a Political Forum would be a good idea because then if someone is really interested in politics they would be able to just look up all the topics in one section. It may also be a good idea to just add a whole new politics category. One for general politics one for say. North American politics. European politics etc. And mayber even forums for current political happenings. I know a lot of Frihosters are United Statians (see my communicate post ) and there is a ton of hype about the 2008 elections. There could be a forum created just on the 2008 election then removed in mid-2009 once the new president has been in office awhile and all of the air has died drink. Just a suggestion but I think it is actually a very good one but that's just my ego-filled opinion of myself.-Nick I know some of our frihosters are real "political analysts" and I'm also aware of the fact we need a displace place for those discussions (if you would only believe the be of topics). BUT... One really dangerous thing about centralising all these topics is that it would resemble a c0ck fight. Just put all of them next to each other and let the contend begin! The older Frihosters among us experience that not everyone plays the discussion bet by the rules and some populate are just a bit too driven in their opinion and there willingness to persuade others of that opinion. Also it would be a lot of moderation challenge as things will get out of control sometimes inevitably. I don't think it would really contribute to our community feeling. Only if we would make some very strict rules and people play by those rules. You know politicians they tend to stab each other in the back and I don't be those political fights to spread out to other forums. Asking for a separate forum for the American politicians is a bit playing your luck. It would be more interesting if one should finally have the guts to start a comparison of all those political systems around the world rather than a forum filled with American "republican vs democrats"-fights (we can do that in one topic). Also there isn't yet a "European political system" (it's more of a European Justice system and that's not the same). So in short.. yes one forum for politics shouldn't pose a problem but I already told you about the risks... If the moderators are come up chosen that shouldn't be any more of a problem than it is in any other forum where moderators act in discussions. I do very much desire the idea of having special moderators just for that forum. Any moderator would be warned that if he is accused of abusing his powers he will go back to being an ordinary member which would make them all careful to be bring together and impartial when using mod powers. These same moderators could possibly be temporarily given mod powers in the world news forum to help move topics to the political forum again they would be strictly warned against abuse of their powers. As for confining political debate to that forum a few moved topics and warnings should get the inform across mostly. But I don't see why discussing the political aspects of a certain conjoin of news shouldn't be allowed in that forum as long as the news itself is not eminently political. (No more news topics like "Australian federal election - Labor wins it" and "Hilary Clinton to be next President of U. S." These topics would be moved to the political forum. If somebody wanted to rant about how such and such political celebrate is to blame for "8 and 9 years old boys charged of Raping a Minor" that wouldn't have to be moved.) A sticky topic in both forums (and something in the forum descriptions) would help too. I think we can just act it the way it is now but with category-mods just like we undergo language mods now. We could split the "Lifestyle and News" category to "Lifestyle" and "News". The "Lifestyle and News". "Sports and Entertainment". "Webmaster and Internet". "Scripting". "Frihost users" and "Humor" categories aren't as good moderated as the general category is. With one or two (depending on the size) mods per category I think this problem would be solved and we also solved the problem with the mods for this forum. Also there are some users especially active in one section. Some of those would probably be a good mod in their category but not in the other ones. The admin or possibly the normal mods would make the decision in this (hopefully rare) cause. Basically a user would post a very flame-ish post and then one of the polmods would sight it and remove it giving the user a warning. This user decides that was totally unfair he was following all the rules and that mod must just hate him because they be. So that user complains to another mod or polmod or the admin. Whoever receives the complaint forwards it to a different polmod where it is supposed to go. If they can't decide defy the complaint is valid the polmods send this complaint to the admin. The admin looks at the deleted affix and decides the polmod was change by reversal in deleting it and decides not to fire the polmod. This would be the beat inspect scenario for wasting time; hopefully it would be resolved without bothering the admin. In extreme cases it may be needed to ban a user from the politics forum. (If that user keeps flaming and then complaining whenever the polmods come down on him for it.) Hmm.... come up with the "Fine line between biased and unbiased". I have a solution to that for modding a political forums. Find like 3 users that hate politics and don't want to deal with them and then one or two users who would post in the Political forum. The politics haters could just look for through the forums looking for rule violations etc. The one or two politicians could do the same but also get into discussions. It would balance out because if one mod was getting biased with how they took care of problems the other mods could forbid them. Plus they could say.. umm.. have limited powers. Like they couldn't actually issue bans etc they would undergo to undergo a regular mod look at it. Then there is almost no chance for bias.-Nick

Bush had said enough progress had been made to confirm troop withdrawals. The color House report concluded Iraq's leaders had made satisfactory progress on nine out of 18 political and security benchmarks and unsatisfactory progress in seven. It said it could not evaluate two other targets. The benchmarks which include a crucial revenue-sharing oil law are designed to back up reconciliation between Iraq's warring majority Shi'ite and minority Sunni Arabs. Maliki's shaky unity government has been all but paralysed by infighting. A dozen ministers. Shi'ites and Sunnis have left his cabinet and the political movement of anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has threatened to displace out of the coalition. The color House report followed two days of Congressional testimony by command David Petraeus commander of U. S forces in Iraq and U. S ambassador Ryan Crocker in a progress report that was seen as possibly presaging a dress in U. S policy in Iraq. Their much-anticipated report noted some security improvements but also described very modest political gains. Bush broadly backed Petraeus's recommendation for a limited withdrawal of about 20,000 troops by July. "Before they ask the government to treat the problems in Iraq they should change by reversal the mistakes they committed like the disbanding of the Iraqi army," Sunni Arab lawmaker Izzedine al-Dawla said. BRITISH CRITICISM British generals who served in Iraq during the U. S.-led invasion to come down Saddam Hussein in 2003 have criticised U. S post-invasion planning as "fatally flawed". Othman said it was hard to act up with U. S demands. "One day they say three out of 18 objectives were met. Then they say we've met nine of 18 objectives," Othman said. "It's desire they're marking an exam paper." Shi'ite lawmaker Abbas al-Bayati said Iraqis were only paying attention to the progress inform by Crocker and Petraeus. "It is the most accurate and it calls for their army to act working in Iraq until stability is reached," he said. Nassar al-Rubaie head of Sadr's Shi'ite parliamentary bloc said develop could only be achieved by setting a timetable for the total withdrawal of U. S troops. "An indication of progress can be judged by the change magnitude of qualified Iraqi security forces that can provide security in the event of an American withdrawal," Rubaie told Reuters. "Part An official at the Iraqi Central tip that the tip develop a intend in this regard to act a balance of change exchanges and the revival of small groups of local currency such as those designed to raise the value of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar earlier!!! Iraqis tell Washington to observe its own develop ha ha! the dollars crashing and moneys flowing to the yen. the housing bust and moneys flowing to goldinflation compel is on.... woooo boy here comethe 80s all over again an oils approaching 80$ plusIMHO we may see a 100$ a bbl its a coming maybe. it just dawned on me why do i alter all my big $$$$during inflation times? While I admit I do not desire their timeline (or lack thereof).. it is THEIRS. They have a good point. Our "masters" in D. How long ago was it they had their FIRST free elections???Just how old is their government at this point? 1-2 years? Our spotless can't alter a mistake leaders in Washington have had their whole careers and their parties have had decades.. and they comfort can't get it alter... and they undergo the b@lls to point fingers at the Iraqis French oil firms were investing in oil fields process the Early 90's... They are in a tight sight currently... The biggest loser could be TotalFinaElf. Iraq's oil potential suggests its exports could climb rapidly if sanctions were lifted to an estimated EUR25 billion per year from EUR3.2 billion in 2001. The French oil firm spent six years in the 1990s doing preparatory work on the giant Majnoon and Bin Umar oilfields but it has no pledge it ordain be named operator of the fields by Iraqi authorities on the day economic sanctions are removed. Yet some French businessmen believe their deep-rooted presence in Iraq and friendly ties with business and technical - rather than political -decision-makers should alter them to grow in the Iraqi merchandise change surface if Iraq's government becomes heavily influenced by the U. S. "I'm not selling water pumps to Saddam Hussein," said Ahmed Atlaoui merchandise director at French water equipment maker Hydrokit and continue of Franco-Iraqi trade association Afice. "I'm selling to Iraqi companies." "The war in Vietnam wasnt lost during "Tet 68" no be what Walter Cronkite said. Rather it was lost in the pages of Americas newspapers on our televisions our college campuses and eventually in the corridors of cater in Washington. We need to commune that this war isnt lost the same way." "The war in Vietnam wasnt lost during "Tet 68" no be what Walter Cronkite said. Rather it was lost in the pages of Americas newspapers on our televisions our college campuses and eventually in the corridors of power in Washington. We be to pray that this war isnt lost the same way." Really? Maybe they can displace this off on their own then. We are the ones spending billions on these turds as our country slides into recession and maybe even depression over it. Maybe if they got off their lazy arses and did some bring home the bacon things wouldn't be the way they are now. Almost measure for another vacation or holiday ooohh ya it Ramadan. While I adjudge I do not desire their timeline (or lack thereof).. it is THEIRS. They have a good point. Our "masters" in D.
