Sources close to CNN broadcast journalist/commentator Lou Dobbs said he is seriously considering a run for the U. S presidency in 2008. Dobbs who formerly hosted CNN's has seen both his ratings and his name recognition rise after his work's focus turned away from news reporting and anchoring and toward political and economic commentary. Dobbs an independent displays an ideology and a political world view that many have characterized as a modified hybrid of and -- i e populism combined with strong views against free trade (or current trade frameworks) and against illegal immigration. Dobbs is a frequent critic of both the Democratic and Republican parties which he argues don't represent the interests of the typical person or the middle class. His show's website describes him as "an independent populist and the leading media advocate for working men and women their families our middle class and the American way of life."Political Analysis: Unless there's a tidal wave of discontent in the American electorate not tallied by pollsters. Dobbs as a third-party candidate or as an Independent has virtually no chance of being elected president of the United States. Although his name recognition is rising and he has a positive public image it's highly unlikely Dobbs could assemble the campaign staff and money required to compete effectively against Democratic and Republican parties' nominees. However this is not to say that Dobbs could not broaden the discourse i e. "force the discussion of less-publicized issues" during a debate. Dobbs could accomplish this but it must be emphasized that making points in a debate is a much easier task than receiving enough votes to win the electoral college vote for U. S president. Yes. I would vote for Lou. He is anti-corporated-controlled America wants a level playing field for trade de-cries the out-sourcing of jobs wants secure borders and is out-spoken about mortagage fraud... and the many middle-class Americans now in foreclosure. These are all things I am concerned about.... and many other Americans. YES. I would definitely vote for him. He has been the only one who speaks the truth. The problem is I don't have much faith in the American public. They would rather watch a sports game than take a real interest in the policies of this country and the damage they created. Clinton and Bush both contributed to this devastation. Lou Dobbs for president? I don't think so he is just another media lackey. Repeating the same crap every day nothing new just what he and his producers think the people want to hear. He can't even mention Dr. Ron Paul and his ten honest hard working terms in congress Unwavering and fighting all the curroption without mention from the media how frustrating it must be to be ignored by everyone for being a constitutional scholar and backer. A firm no to the patriot act. Check him out ,if there is anything bad in his resume please post it i just haven't been able to find anything i don't dont like about him. He represents only the people that really want an honest public servant leading them. Ignoring all lobby bribes and corporate favors. Propaganda in the media ignores him completely. Including Lou Dobbs who would probably make a very good vice president because he has similar feelings on the illegals and most of his other views are very similar to Ron Paul's beleifs. Let's get this great old guy a better job so he can fix this great country. Y'know. Peter. I've been watching Lou Dobbs for almost 10 years now AND I've been working my tail off for Ron Paul for the last 3 months. I really resent your comments about Lou. I'm a little upset about Ron not being on the show more often but he has been interviewed both by Lou and Kitty Pilgrim in the last year - which is more than allthe other candidates except Hunter and Tancredo. Most of the airtime spent talking about other candidates has been critical in nature not the typical fluff mainstream media offers. I really think you should reasess your position or at least watch the show more often than it sounds like you do. I feel Lou Dobbs Tonight is the only news program even worth awatching anymore precisely BECAUSE he reports things that the rest of the REAL media lackeys don't. In fact your comments ar so incorrect that they immediately diminish your credibility and hurt our cause for Ron Paul. I believe Ron Paul can get the Republican nomination then we won't need Lou to run. If by chance he doesn't - I'd vote for Lou hands down. Lou is a potential Ross Perot. If he runs he will shake up the party bosses in both the Democratic and Republican parties. I would like to see his name included in a preliminary poll to see how he stands up against Hillary. Rudy and the others at this point in time. Can't win? Probably not but if I am left with a choice between Hillary or the ambulance chaser and some extreme right wing Republican. I would most certainly vote for Lou. Yes to Dobbs for President.. without reservation! He seems to be the only one who recognizes that the CONSTITUTION is our only rule to live by book as U. S citizens. It accommodate diversities and protects our freedoms. I am a Roman Catholic... Bibles the Koran etc. these books we personally live by and we NEVER impose them on others..... NOR do they trump the Constitution of the United States. yes! by the way i would love to help out in his campaign phone work mailing and money limited funds i'am on social security so i work part time and don't have alot of extra my children and grandchilren need lou money isn't everything but our freedoms are and they being badly abused money can't buy those back but our vote can i will stand by you in your convictions i've lived most of my life this vote is for my chilren and grandchilren thanks in advance mary

"Nuclear Poker: Iran Strengthens Its Hand" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-06-22 07:09:11

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released Thursday assessing Iran’s nuclear program can be counted as a victory for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government. Ever since the referral of Iran’s case from the IAEA to the UN Security Council in February 2006 the Iranian government has been. On almost every news channel and in newspaper articles. Tehran’s government-controlled media have been saying that the UN Security Council is an unfair body due to the veto power given to its five permanent members (US. UK. Russian. China and France). Therefore the only body whom they deemed fit to adjudicate the country’s nuclear program is the IAEA because its decision making structure does not favor a specific group of member countries. So since February 2006. Iran has realized that the best way to blunt Western efforts to compel tougher sanctions against Iran is to bolster its relationship with the IAEA. In an effort to do so. Iran started to slowly answer some of the questions about the murky past of its nuclear program. The Iranians decided to be clever about it however. They didn’t open up all sites or answer all questions. They answered a few important questions with answers designed to direct the IAEA away from concluding that Iran’s nuclear schedule has military goals. On Thursday. Ahmadinejad’s government reaped the rewards of its clever tactic. The very fact that that the IAEA report found Iran to be ““ will furnish more credibility to the claims of Ahmadinejad and his allies inside Iran that the Iranian nuclear program is for civilian purposes. This despite the fact that the very same report acknowledges that Iran is defying UN demands to stop its uranium enrichment program. Furthermore since the inform does not say that it has any evidence which proves that Iran’s nuclear activities are for military purposes a golden opportunity has been provided for Ahmadinejad to try and boost his standing at home and abroad. “We welcome the process in which IAEA has enhanced its role,” . “With the release of the report all nations around the world will see that Iranian nations are right and entitled to acquire peaceful nuclear energy.” Sadly for the West after IAEA’s ruling today more Iranian citizens are likely to believe that the West through its overwhelming voting cater in the UN. Since the report has not accused Iran of making a bomb more Iranians will be inclined to view their country’s enrichment process being within Iran’s legal right under article 4 of the. Therefore they won’t see Iran’s insistence to continue enriching uranium as something illegal. Of course this does not automatically mean that they approve of Ahmadinejad since the biggest reason why they elected him was to turn the economy around. This is an area where he is failing miserably. Domestic impact aside the IAEA report is also a diplomatic victory for the Iranian government. Raja news a conservative pro-Ahmadinejad News agency described the IAEA report as ““. It is undeniable that the report’s findings are likely to make it more difficult for Western governments to bring Russia and China on board in an effort to compel further sanctions against Iran. Moscow and Beijing can now point to the IAEA’s finding and claim that negotiations with Iran work so therefore the idea of further sanctions should now be reconsidered. The IAEA report is likely to furnish a stronger voice to those who do not want sanctions imposed against Iran as it provokes more doubt regarding Western claims that Iran is making a bomb. As the IAEA is itself a move of the UN its findings are likely to provide Iran and its backers with a powerful legal precedent to defend its case. One of the major reasons why the West was successful in getting Iran to show its secret nuclear activities in the first place was bear witness obtained by intelligence agencies and by the Iranian opposition movement Mujahedeen Khalgh. This information showed that Iran was illegally hiding secret enrichment facilities in Natanz. This bear witness put an end to much speculation. What is needed to provide Western countries with sufficient backing is more such credible evidence. As the IAEA has been unable to produce this the only other available source would be intelligence agencies who have more resources at their disposal and likely have had access to more sites inside Iran than the IAEA inspectors. Nevertheless the political ramifications could confirm such a move as it could speed up the diplomatic track against Iran and save the West from the possibility of going to war. Furthermore credible bear witness could also restore Western intelligence agencys’ tattered image after the Iraq war which failed to produce the Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMD) which they warned the Western populations about. Last but not least such evidence could be used to win the hearts and minds of the Iranian populate who are a key element in the current complicated equation surrounding their country’s nuclear program. Unfortunately the mercurial Iran policy of the current administration is also contributing to Iranian regime’s winning streak. On one hand there are bouts of tough hot –albeit hollow– rhetoric on military strikes; on the other hand. Condi Rice. Robert Gates and other Iran-Appeasers in state department channel Iranian prisoners from Iraq and send appeasing signals to Tehran to make good and sleep in same bed. This dual policy is being laughed at in Tehran and the regime is taking full advantage of the American timidity and chaos when it comes to confronting the regime in Iran. Some political elite in the US and ceratinly in Europe are even and still waiting for Khatami and Rafsanjani to go (with their back up) and save the day for the west. THAT is their ultimate goal not the be elimination of the regime or any regime change. As long as we undergo this ineffective and ridiculous policy towards Iran our position will continue to erode in the region and in the world. IAEA was Condi sieve’s idea to begin with. Her state department’s misguided uninformed unqualified naive and destructively appeasing Iran policy has brought nothing but failure and grief for us. This as the President and the Vice President just watch and say and more importantly do nothing. Iranian regime has had a long history of buying off western journalists and scholars who travel to Iran by showering them with “gifts” which variably include cash gold coins carpets caviar and other goodies in return for their favorable coverage of the Iranian regime overseas. Many such examples can be seen in US and European media and political pundits today. Al Baradei the head of IAEA is an anti-western Muslim. He is ineffective and unmotivated as well as unqualified for the job. He is a patsy for the Iranian regime. He has an Iranian wife. Rumor has it in Iran and other places that he has even received a sum of $10 million from the Iranian regime to do its bidding in its favor in the nuclear standoff with the US. Also. Baradei has EU ties: some EU political elite use Al Baradei to stave off any military action against the Iranian regime by the US. Iranian regime consists of Shiite mullahs and their cohorts who have a conceive of of a sort of final Judgment Day in the region and the world. They are an apocalyptic cult who believe and expect the appearance of the fictitious 12th “disappear Imam Mahdi” when mayhem and chaos overtakes the world. Shiitism was born through the sword in Iran during the Savafid dynasty as an off shoot of the Arabian Peninsula Sunni original version of Islam (which has equally barbaric history). The breeding ground for Shiitism in particular has been violence mayhem martyrdom murder and chaos. And it still breeds morbidity and chaos to this day. The bushel representative of Shiitism cult in the world today is the Iranian regime. This is akin to Germany being the sole flag bearer of Nazism in the 1930s and into the 1940s in Europe. Any negotiations or talk with the Iranian regime is based on naivet√© and will be meaningless and futile. It’s time to forbid fooling ourselves. What came with the sword must ultimately go with the sword.

As the IAEA has been unable to produce this the only other available source would be intelligence agencies who have more resources at their disposal and likely have had access to more sites inside Iran than the IAEA inspectors. Nevertheless the political ramifications could justify such a move as it could speed up the diplomatic track against Iran and save the West from the possibility of going to war. Furthermore credible evidence could also restore Western intelligence agencys’ tattered image after the Iraq war which failed to produce the Weapons of Mass Destructions (WMD) which they warned the Western populations about. Last but not least such bear witness could be used to win the hearts and minds of the Iranian people who are a key element in the current complicated equation surrounding their country’s nuclear schedule. Unfortunately the mercurial Iran policy of the current administration is also contributing to Iranian regime’s winning streak. On one hand there are bouts of tough hot –albeit hollow– rhetoric on military strikes; on the other hand. Condi Rice. Robert Gates and other Iran-Appeasers in state department release Iranian prisoners from Iraq and send appeasing signals to Tehran to make good and sleep in same bed. This dual policy is being laughed at in Tehran and the regime is taking full advantage of the American timidity and chaos when it comes to confronting the regime in Iran. Some political elite in the US and ceratinly in Europe are even and still waiting for Khatami and Rafsanjani to return (with their help) and save the day for the west. THAT is their ultimate goal not the total elimination of the regime or any regime change. As long as we have this ineffective and ridiculous policy towards Iran our position will continue to erode in the region and in the world. IAEA was Condi Rice’s idea to begin with. Her state department’s misguided uninformed unqualified naive and destructively appeasing Iran policy has brought nothing but failure and grief for us. This as the President and the Vice President just watch and say and more importantly do nothing. Iranian regime has had a long history of buying off western journalists and scholars who travel to Iran by showering them with “gifts” which variably consider cash gold coins carpets caviar and other goodies in go for their favorable coverage of the Iranian regime overseas. Iranian regime consists of Shiite mullahs and their cohorts who have a dream of a choose of final Judgment Day in the region and the world. They are an apocalyptic cult who believe and expect the appearance of the fictitious 12th “Absent Imam Mahdi” when mayhem and chaos overtakes the world. The sole representative of Shiitism cult in the world today is the Iranian regime. This is akin to Germany being the sole flag bearer of Nazism in the 1930s and into the 1940s in Europe. Any negotiations or talk with the Iranian regime is based on naivet√© and will be meaningless and futile. It’s time to stop fooling ourselves. What came with the sword must ultimately go with the sword.

visitors experience. I like to bring up or journey in remote exotic or difficult (for me) places but I like to walk around cities too. This walking around on your own two feet can be a fairly low tech kind of sport one reason I like it though I’m often driven crazy by hiking companions who spend the whole day in beautiful country yakking about this or that mark of hiking poles or daypacks or—the mother of all trail talk—trekking boots. Now hiking boots are important and I put a lot of time into researching and testing whenever I have to buy a new unify. And then you never know until you’ve walked up and down a few hills over more than a few miles if you’ve made the right decision. But when it’s go and you’re in the heart of a grove of aspens at peak alter yellow verging on gold and those sequin-like gold leaves are all atremble against a classic New Mexican sky of unsullied turquoise and your ears are being bombarded with a dissertation on the cushioning and/or absorbent qualities of this sock or that the day begins to evoke of futility. Shaddup already! The tech requirements and complications for committed walkers aren’t entirely negligible of cover. Especially when you get into backpacking or spending days and nights at high altitude. Comparison-shopping can make a serious difference in comfort and safety. And be. So whether or not the go on the trail is allot it turns out there’s a good amount of knowledge and expertise that goes into the simplest enjoyment of nature—change surface when you’re about to set out in your worn drink old sneakers and everyday windbreaker. You be up and see clouds. Whatever the weatherman said measure night you know it’s going to rain. Or not. Or it’s just rained and you experience a certain dawdle is going to be impossibly mucky along a crucial stretch until tomorrow. Etc. I’m leading up to something here—and trying to get done before I go out for an Indian pass go in the hills. Though the aspens at the higher altitudes have lost their leaves the lowland cottonwoods are still golden and the sky is only slightly masked with a few very high streaks of cloud that may be closing in by the afternoon. I was going to take a beat sabbatical from the communicate to work on my other writing because. I’ve discovered. I can’t do heavy political analysis and also act my object continuously on other sorts of wordwork. took over my life partly because I love thinking and talking about politics and international affairs partly because I felt that political writing was something I should do as a concerned and reasonably come up informed citizen. But it was driving me nuts—especially since some days. I also felt guilty for going out and taking those walks in the hills. colleagues do so well. I’m just going to meander through the issues or news of the day—sharing thoughts and chuckles raising questions provoking reactions. For the past three years thoughts like these generally resulted in my spending a whole day (or several) creating a substantive item. No more for now. I don’t plan to be particularly outrageous or nasty but I hope my bits will be fun to read. In the process. I may refer to items from publications that are not be available for remove on the web. I won’t apologize now or later. Responsible blogging of the web journalism variety still doesn’t bring in a living wage for most producers. For instance although we have received much verbal support for our efforts my colleagues and I fully subsidize Even if we decided to solicit a few ads the income would be derisory especially divided by three. alive for endless decades. If you’re an academic you’ve got expertise and income enough for the good life but you may not have much time for blogging and you may get flack from colleagues not bitten by the blog bug. What's more. I haven't heard of any academics earning promotion or tenure for their contributions to the blogosphere. Yet. Of cover there are some blogs that hit the jackpot but so far as I know they don’t do serious political analysis or broach with foreign relations. Sigh! Hence until the economics dress. I deeply appreciate the fact that people can do serious (if often imperfect) journalism or political commentary and earn a decent living in the print media the notorious MSM. Folks: we should be happy to buy newspapers magazines and opinion journals of all stripes until the electronic media evolve a way to pay for dredging up and distributing the information and analysis we need to make smart political choices at home and abroad.

"Knowledge and Expertise Optional: November 15th Democratic Debate ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:57:15

I was already wavering on whether to watch a consider moderated by a guy named Wolf when I discovered that our good friend and resident Democratic crazy person. Sen. displease was not invited to the UNLV hosted consider. Without the declare of comic relief. I switched the channel from CNN (the network hosting the event) to Comedy Central. However after seeing a DEWmocracy (as in Mountain Dew) commercial. I felt guilty about becoming another apathetic college student and changed it approve. So into my analysis. we’re going to be and the more anti-American sentiment there’s going Ok so I know what you expect and most likely what you want is how each candidate did… who won who lost; that sort of thing. So here goes: Clinton: B. Got embarrassed and nailed by a few comments by other candidates but brushed it off saying that the American people will decide. Attacked Obama and Edwards a little bit though it wasn’t really needed. She would be wise to shy away from the negative campaigning for a while. Is very comfortable as frontrunner and sees no great challenge to that alter now. Obama: B+. Did very well and often seemed insightful. Again was very charismatic and made several successful attacks on Hillary while comfort managing to convince us all that he is not political and is a uniter not a divider. Edwards: D. Tried to make a lot of attacks on Hillary but most of them were off target or below the belt and ended up making him be desire a jackass. No one liked him in Las Vegas tonight. Richardson: B-. Made no particular progress against the main candidates but did manage to distance himself from the Congress. Looked strong on immigration but cause to be perceived himself placing civil rights of Pakistanis above security for Americans. Kucinich: B. ordain never change state president but did bring up a lot of good points concerning the war and pressed the air of workers’ alter forcing the other candidates to act. Gravel: A. He wasn’t there and somehow this was his best performance. come up done campaign organizer come up done. Joe Biden has for a desire measure now been my favorite Democratic candidate because of his expertise knowledge and his unwillingness to alter complex issues. Unfortunately this is why he doesn’t have a chance. Americans want campaign promises they experience won’t be kept. They be issues simplified so they can be passionate about them. Americans want bumper sticker sized phrases to solve the problems that face the world today. Unfortunately these ordain not bring home the bacon. Pakistan cannot be solved by saying “we should defend human rights”. Racial profiling will not be solved if we get rid of the PATRIOT Act. Our problems ordain not be fixed by pumping the government full of Democrats. Problems need well thought out plans not catchphrases. Biden with the huge amount of experience he has especially concerning foreign affairs actually provides them. However the American populate will not evaluate them because they are not the easy answers we were looking for. In four years we ordain be the same place we are now wondering what went do by. And yet again we will elect a president with strong words rather than nuanced plans. To the American populate: Actually think through your political opinions. Do not let pundits and politicians use pretty words to decide them for you. Remember that our problems are not simple and our solutions will not be either. To Biden: The American people are never going to comprehend to what I just said above. You have a lot of good plans but will never be elected if you act on running as an expert rather than a ideologue as an academic rather than a pissed-off democrat. But convey you for trying. Although I have to give you C because you really didn’t win many American minds over tonight you get an A in my heart because you are what politics should be.
