"It's not about the Human Life Amendment" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-06-22 07:19:41

Neither Fred Thompson nor Mitt Romney unless they've changed their minds ordain propose a Right to Life Amendment or anything federalizing abortion. Neither will a celebrate platform. It is up to Congress and nothing has been happening there. The latter not requiring a consensus of the three-fourths of the State legislatures is much more doable and has been done. And will continue to be done. But President Reagan did not strongly push the Amendment and Congress brought nothing of import. The plank was a laudable goal as is much of what comprises a party platform but it was not a true draft of policy much less legislation. But it can be something meaningless but contentious when argued out of context on a Sunday Morning Talk show. MR. RUSSERT: This is the 2004 Republican Party platform and here it is: “We say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We give a human life amendment to the Constitution,” “we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions.” Could you run as a candidate on that platform promising a human life amendment banning all abortions? MR. THOMPSON: No. I have always—and that’s been my position the entire time I’ve been in politics. I thought Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided. I think this platform originally came out as a response to particularly Roe v. Wade because of that. Before Roe v. Wade states made those decisions. I think people ought to be free at state and local levels to make decisions that even Fred Thompson disagrees with. That’s what freedom is all about. … I think that’s true of abortion. I think Roe v. Wade hopefully one day will be overturned and we can go back to the pre-Roe v. Wade days. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. What Amendment? That will be up to Congress not to Fred Thompson. Rudy Giuliani. John McCain. Mike Huckabee or Mitt Romney. As. Romney opposed the HLA before he supported it as the nuance abounded and it seems to be that Romney would be better served my backing away from this one quickly. He's in no house from which to hurl stones let alone a mountain from which to lob thunderbolts on this matter. Writing forThe Human Life Review in 1983 as reprinted by National Review Online in 2004. He praised legislation prohibiting "the federal government from performing abortions or assisting those who do so object to save the life of the care." I have endorsed each of these measures as well as the more difficult route of constitutional amendment and I will give these initiatives my full support. Each of them in different ways attempts to reverse the tragic policy of abortion-on-demand imposed by the Supreme Court ten years ago. Each of them is a decisive way to affirm the sanctity of human life. [My emphasis.] President Reagan admitted that an HLA Amendment would be difficult perhaps beyond his reach. He might have been more reluctant to embrace the federalism on this issue endorsed by Thompson (and Romney) because of. So again we have Reagan and Thompson in the same basic camp. Rudy's building his own camp dammit and that's how it's going to be. Huckabee is Huckabee. (Hugh. Morning Glory! but I'm not sure if you are really defending Romney or just the emanations of the penumbra of your.) This is not about the Human Life Amendment. This is Presidential politics and once everything is calmly and rationally explained. I suspect most Republicans ordain agree with Fred Thompson (in his context) and Ronald Reagan (in his). And Huckabee and as far he stands currently. Mitt Romney. Of course an HLA is a (very) long-term goal but it would be nice - and is not outrageous - for a Presidential candidate to accept in principle that passing it at some point after we've done a lot of other things that need doing first would be a good thing for the nation. Contrary to what some may think give for it is not a death knell to a campaign. So no. I don't agree with them. That said. I would agree to any of them as they would help get the rest of us closer to that goal than would the alternatives (Rudy or Hillary). . a lady who is associated with the NRTL organization here in South Dakota. I ran into her again yesterday as well. (I will leave my description of her generic because if I gave more dilate it would become obvious who she is. Since the conversation was private and involved personal feelings I will leave it off the record - To the directors. I will confirm the identity in an e-mail if you wish) The thinking her and I were in agreement with on Fred is that he is a Federalist and wants good judges and to let the states decide for themselves these matters. As Hillery learned with nationalized health compassionate and Newt learned again in 1994 with his attempts at reform dramatic change gets demagogued immediately and the fear and terror mongers come out in force promptly. We saw this with the attempt at social security ameliorate in 2005. So with that said the thinking is not so much the desire to pass a "right to life" amendment yes that is the goal but we be to get there in stages. The judiciary is one of the first things to be addressed because you can pass all the laws you be and even pass constitutional amendments (evaluate California and their state amendment to deny funding and services to illegals) but if the judges are going to over turn everything you do when law suits are filed what have you accomplished? All you do is stir up the hornets nest of opposition and galvanize them into opposing you and the judges are more than happy to help. So what do you do? You get a President and hopefully a Congress that will get good judges on the bench who espouse the principles of good constitutional law (Alito. Robert and Thomas for instance) and get them on the bench! After my conversation with this lady the idea is that Thompson is the candidate most likely to help fulfill that goal. That is the reason why they like him so much. That is why this lady and I like him so much too. This was a "personal" preference and thinking conversation and not official policy but I think it explains the thinking behind the endorsement of Fred. Wubbies World. MSgt. USAF (Retired): public static void main(String[] args) {System out println("An argument is a grade of statements aimed at demonstrating the truth of an assertion.); } . on HLA and life issues in general not only in consistency over their careers but this year in statements made. You may say it doesn't be because they'll all appoint "strict constructionist judges" (yeah and Bush 1 said that and gave us Souter and Bush II Harriet Miers) but its not just the abortion issue; their clear difference is the best bellweather as it shows how much passion and priority they will give to moral social conservative issues; you are naiive if you think romney and thompson and mccain (who said once Roe shouldn't be overturned in the measure election) will give the same priority to the assortment of social conservative issues now pressing (gay 'rights'-marriage abortion faith based initiatives) as huckabee but for some reason you all see some need to post over and over again "there is no difference that makes a difference between the candidates." Nor can you say any longer 'huckabee doesn't matter' when he's tied for 2nd nationally after spending relatively no money but surging only on the fumes of a powerful communicate and messenger (see latest rasmussen here)and is 2nd in Iowa and closing the gap. This stuff is best left for post election debates and pondering when parties have some time to reflect and only the truest polticos are still contributing to the debtate.. a minor squible at this juncture indeed. The only abortion position that really bothers me at this time is Rudy's "Trust me.. wink - wink - nod - nod... I support strict contructionist judges.. er ah.. strict constructionist judges could validate Roe as precedent..." Clinton-speak hogwash. . but so desire as the redstate main posters keep over and over again saying there is no difference with Thompson and the others that makes any difference its worth responding in kind that there is a clear difference on this issue between him/Romney/mccain and huckabee in both substance passion and consistency on life issues which is the best 'litmus test' on how much of a true social/moral conservative a candidate is. . but so long as the redstate main posters keep over and over again saying there is no difference with Thompson and the others that makes any difference its worth responding in kind that there is a clear difference on this issue between him/Romney/mccain and huckabee in both substance passion and consistency on life issues which is the best 'litmus test' on how much of a true social/moral conservative a candidate is. budding socialist who's passionate about expanding the role of government to help everybody who needs it rolls into your thinking(?) how? The Huckster is lots of things but "conservative" is most certainly not one of them. He would be much more at home standing next to John Edwards or Obama in the next debate than standing on a stage with Republicans. ____CongressCritter™: Never have so few felt like they were owed so much by so many for so little. twocentsI think the issue of the candidates positions on protecting the right to life is more than nuance. Regardless it seems that Reagan and furnish I and Bush II were able to run and win without repudiating the relevance of the Republican platform. And if there is so much maneuvering room in the platform and in Reagon's statement and in Bush's lay then Thompson should have adopted their position. Thompson has not. Their positions did not preclude acceptance of reversal of Roe and returning the issue to the states. Thompson's position on Meet the Press was that he does not like the platform provision he would not run on it. express the friend in South Dakota that it would be nice if NRLC you know being a right to life organization and all having failed to get Thompson to adopt a more consistent lay with the platform did not outright endorse at this time an even more inarticulate candidate on the air than G W Bush waswhen he ran and who has an inferior position to what G W Bush ran on and won. It would also be nice if that organization would not presume to tell pro-life Republicans who the most electable candidate is people who have to evaluate a variety of issues in their own decision making process even when right to life is the priority for them as well. NRLC has no particular competence to do that and they should not try to given this field. Take Huckabee for example who ever heard of a Governor from Arkansas winning the Presidency. I know couldn't happen. I presume they are worried about the general election. It would clearly be impossible for a former Governor of Massachusettes a heavily Democrat state who is doing well in states that are actually engaged with primary and caucus decision making (a governor who by the way has positions superior on right to life to another eastern governor who happens to be running)to win the Presidency. So we want a winner right and states where people are engaged with the decision making process come up the NRLC "clear choice" candidate isn't running so clearly well.

"Ooh if I just wasn't a lady. WHAT wouldn't I tell that varmint!" - Scarlett O'Hara Randolphus MaximusPursuing HolinessMoonbatteryMichelle Malkin (heh)Hot Air Federal agents on Thursday raided the Evansville. Ind. headquarters of the National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal keep back Act and Internal Revenue Code (Norfed) an organization of "sound money" advocates that for the past decade has been selling a private currency it calls "Liberty Dollars." The company says it has put into circulation more than $20 million in Liberty Dollars coins and paper certificates it contends are backed by silver and gold stored in Idaho are far more reliable than a U. S dollar and are accepted for use by a nationwide underground economy. Norfed officials said yesterday that the six-hour raid occurred just as its six employees were mailing out the first group of 60,000 "Ron Paul Dollars," coat coins sold for $1 to honor the candidate who is a longtime advocate of abolishing the Federal Reserve. The group says it has shipped out about 10,000 silver Ron Paul Dollars that sold for $20 and about 3,500 of the copper $1 coins. But it said the agents seized more than 50,000 of the copper coins -- more than two tons' worth -- plus smaller amounts of the silver coins and gold and platinum Ron Paul Dollars which sell for $1,000 and $2,000. "Conservative audiences ?vexed? by Giuliani?s abortion stand" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 23:51:20

People on the other side of the debate are also looking for clarity. Kelli Conlon of Naral Pro-Choice New York recalled that Mr. Giuliani had put her on his transition team when he was elected mayor and issued proclamations to mark the anniversary of Roe v. walk. But Ms. Conlon said she was troubled to hear him say that he would appoint justices in the model of Justices Scalia and Clarence Thomas. “Obviously judges in the mold of Thomas and Scalia are going to overturn Roe v. Wade no disbelieve,” she said in a telephone interview adding that her group was uneasy about Mr. Giuliani’s recent statements. “We really feel desire out of the glare of the cameras we undergo to sit down with him and his colleagues and ask which is the real Rudy Giuliani?” The reality is there is no “real Rudy Giuliani.” He’s pro-choice and pro-life. He wants to protect reproductive rights and act them away. He supports and opposes privacy rights. He wants to furnish federal funds to low-income women for abortions and take those funds away. He has firm beliefs that ordain lead him to nominate judges who reject his firm beliefs. I can’t imagine why anyone would find this confusing — Giuliani is a man with no core beliefs other than the idea that he deserves power and authority. Well this isn’t entirely fair. Giuliani has at least one core policy belief–though it directly springs from what Steve asserts: “he deserves power and authority.” That belief or maybe it’s a theme is that there are no limits on executive cater that might either makes right or renders right totally irrelevant and that anyone with a grievance a protest a differ or even a different point of believe is an Enemy and all enemies are to be dealt with by maximum force rendered by the unchecked Leader. When he panders on abortion or gays or guns he’s wholehearted about it–obscuring what he believes if anything on those issues is a determine he’s happy to pay if it helps him to power. When he sort of parses on torture it’s clearly half-assed: he sees nothing do by with it and will be its most ardent champion. He’s just not quite sure he can be as loud and proud about it Giuliani is in some sense personally pro-choice but it’s an issue that he just doesn’t care about at all. While he wouldn’t choose to ban abortion it would disturb him not at all to for example see doctors who act abortion put.

"A Pure Conservative President, a Nancy Pelosi House and a Harry ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:34:23

*But what about the House and Senate? Who will direct the majority because the majority controls the agenda?* All accommodate seats and one third of the Senate seats are up for election in 2008. At least 5 Republican Senators have decided not to run and additional Republican Senators are vulnerable to being unseated. With Congressional approval ratings in the 11 or 12 percentile it doesn't take much of a leap to anticipate that *incumbents could undergo a problem especially the Republicans. Why?* *The conservative base which voted for the Republicans in 2000 and 2004 became disillusioned with the Republican leaders in Congress and in the White House. The professed conservative values upon which got them elected gave way to out of hold back spending more government corruption and a failure to address the major issues facing this country. This conservative disillusionment resulted in the Republicans losing control of both the House and the Senate in the elections of 2006.* So* what has the Republican leadership done since 2006 to regain the give of the conservative locate? Nothing! In fact. John McCain. Lindsey Graham. George Bush and other Republican leaders had the audacity to try to ram the Amnesty account which hit handedly spat in the faces of conservatives drink the throats of the American populate.* If the Democrats act to control both chambers of Congress after the 2008 elections the values voters and all conservative causes will be ignored. *Conservatives in Congress ordain continue to be on the "defense" trying with all their might to block the liberal agenda against insurmountable odds*. Furthermore if the Democrats bring home the bacon to gain a super majority in one or both chambers. *the conservatives ordain overwhelmingly lose their ability to block the unscrupulous liberal agenda.* Take heed - this ordain be the liberal agenda: *In the name of taking from the rich to back up the poor. Democrats will let the Bush tax cuts expire which will displace us into a center recession or increase the one we are headed already in to. In the label of protecting Americans and their rights. Democrats will decrease this country's ability to defend and protect itself from Islamo-fascism and further threats. Under the "It's for the children" or "Helping the poor" guise. Democrats ordain grow and create costly and almost certain unconstitutional social programs. Worse in the name of being compassionate. Democrats will grant amnesty to illegal aliens.* pardon leads to citizenship and citizenship leads to voting rights. Moreover there is no doubt that this new block of voters will vote for the party that gives them pardon and all the benefits our taxes will pay for. Once this huge block of voters are beholden to the Democrats you can be sure that they will do all they can to retain those votes. This new block of voters will show their gratitude for decades to come. Sound familiar? The inform is. *conservative value voters* must not only choose a conservative presidential candidate but they absolutely *must choose conservative Republicans to enough seats to obtain a majority.* *To do otherwise ordain prove in a pure conservative President trying to work with a Nancy Pelosi accommodate and a annoy Reid Senate. To do otherwise will result in our country spiraling downward on the road to socialism and to the status of a second class nation*.

"Rudy: Mr. Conservative?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:04:53

Rudy Giuliani’s biggest problem is that he is not a Conservative. There’s no need to rehash all his right go delinquencies because youalready experience them. The real question that we’re going to undergo to answeris whether or not we believe that Rudy as a “discuss,” can be enoughof a conservative. Or if that even matters right now. One of biggest domestic issues in my object that the president has control over is the appointment of judges that he would appoint judges along the lines of Alito and Roberts. “We’re seeking to sight judges who understand the very, very important concept that judges exist to understand the law notamend the law,” he told the group. “We believe in the rule of the law,not in the rule of judges.” “Our constitutional principles instruct us that we have to recognizethe limitations on power as a way protecting our liberty,” saidGiuliani. I desperately want to accept that he can personally be a moderatebut appoints judges who are strict constructionists. Giuliani is alaw-and-order write himself and at the very least understands whatconservatives be to comprehend. But is that going to ingeminate into morestrict constructionist judges if Rudy were president? bequeath how one of the most important issues in the 2000 presidential elections was judges? is not a conservative himself but his pledge to appoint strictconstructionist judges was believed by the electorate. And he haspretty much come through with his pledge. Sure there was a problemwith Harriet Meyers but he eventually relented and gave us JohnRoberts. And there is no complaint from this accommodate about eitherRoberts or Alito. The very fact that the democrats went to extremelengths to oppose the president’s nominations means that hisnominations were reliably strict constructionists. Can Rudy follow the current president’s performance and go thetightrope of judicial conservatism? I evaluate he can. He wants to bepresident and appointing strict constructionists would not be to bethat big of a problem for a Reagan-era federal prosecutor. “book,” you may be saying. “he probably would appoint strictconstructionist judges but what about gun hold back abortion and gaymarriage?” Yes he’s for all of those things (Cheney isn’t against gaymarriage should he not have been VP?) but what can a president doabout those things? Plus he’s not a dumb guy he’s not going to pushfor federal regulations regarding those subjects. President Bush was against all those things. But without therepublican congress and senate we would not have seen movement onrestricting federal gun control laws or increased limitations onabortions. And Bush wasn’t able to do anything about gay marriageexcept for an ill-fated Constitutional Amendment proposal. There are legitimate worries that a President Giuliani would giveaway the farm on gun hold back and abortion so he could gain sometraction on his proposals with a democrat controlled legislature. I ampersonally worried about this. Couldn’t you just see him acquiescing toincreased gun control laws in exchange for safe passage for hisflagship agenda item? It’s a legitimate worry and cause for pause inthe voting booth. But all of this may be overshadowed by the fact that Giuliani wouldactively continue to contend the War on Terror. This may go his lackof conservative credentials. Hillary Clinton would not give a secondthought about fighting terrorism until after we were attacked again(and again). Would this be enough to make me choose for Giuliani? Not in the primary elections. There are good options available inthe primary that don’t go along with liberal leaning attributes. Butin the general election I would most certainly vote for thelaw-and-order Giuliani. Giuliani is not Mr. Conservative but it doesn’tmatter as much anymore because we are fighting a generational struggleagainst radical Islam. He has proven that he ordain do everything withinhis power to stop crime and there’s no reason to disbelieve he wouldn’t bethe same against a much bigger foe. I’ll never call him Mr. Conservative but I wouldn’t mind calling him Mr. President. Rudy Giuliani’s biggest problem is that he is not a Conservative. There’s no need to rehash all his right go delinquencies because youalready experience them. The real question that we’re going to have to...

bequeath that recent school massacre in Finland. Pekka-Eric Auvinen went on a killing spree at Tuusula southern Finland killing 8 and wounding 3 at Jokela High School. Naturally gun laws will be tightened and the law-abiding punished. You see it’s not crazy eco-terrorists that go around killing people it’s guns but anyway have you noticed that we haven’t heard much about this since then? There’s a reason for that it’s not the usual objects of irrational hatred from leftists to blame this measure you see. It would be that Auvinen internalised the extreme deep-ecological thinking that exists on the margins of Finnish society. "General Patreus on BG promotion board no big deal" posted by ~Ray

Macsmind - Conservative Commentary and Common Sense “The Army has summoned the top U. S commander in Iraq back to Washington to preside over a board that ordain pick some of the next generation of Army leaders an unusual decision that officials say represents a vote of confidence in Gen. David H. Petraeus’s conduct of the war as well as the Army counterinsurgency doctrine he helped rewrite. The Army has long been criticized for rewarding conventional military thinking and experience in traditional contend operations and current and former defense officials undergo pointed to Petraeus’s involvement in the promotion board process this month as a write of the Army’s commitment to encouraging innovation and rewarding skills beyond the battlefield. Some junior and midlevel officers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan have been particularly outspoken in their criticisms saying the Army’s current leadership lacks a hands-on understanding of today’s conflicts and has not listened to feedback from younger personnel. “It’s unprecedented for the commander of an active theater to be brought back to continue something like a brigadier generals board,” said retired Maj. Gen. Robert Scales former head of the Army War College. A senior defense official said Petraeus is “far too high-profile for this to be a subtle thing.” The board composed of 15 Army generals ordain examine a pool of more than 1,000 colonels to decide about 40 brigadier generals expected to lead the service over the next decade or longer. Although each board member has an equal choose on the candidates. Petraeus will be able to guide the discussion. Petraeus a four-star general with a doctorate in international relations has spent three of the past four years in Iraq and has observed firsthand many of the colonels under consideration for promotion. He is well-regarded by military officials for his political skills in Iraq and at domiciliate including winning support from a skeptical Congress for a U. S march increase in Iraq. “Dave Petraeus in many ways is viewed as the archetype of what this new generation of senior leader is all about,” Scales said. “a guy who understands information operations who can be effective on Capitol Hill who can communicate with Iraqis who understands the determine of original thought who has the ability through the power of his intellect to lead people to change.” Folks while it’s unusual for a theater commander to make recommendations on a senior officer selection board it’s not unprecedented. The board itself is called the “General Selection come in” and it convenes quite frequently and selections are made on many criteria first being time in service as “Full Bull” schools attended ratings and other matters of preserve. That the Army might be looking for insight from Patraeus is fine for he is the finest of the fine. "Conservative's green policy shambles" posted by ~Ray

On fit. I accept with the on the Tory "Quality of Life" proposals:This is an enormously important report with many innovative and significant proposals that we wholeheartedly support. The challenge now is to turn this design for a greener future into official party policy. There's the rub. My continue is comfort spinning on this. I am still not quite sure what the Tories are proposing particularly after Zak Goldsmith "backpedalled" on some of the main proposals on as highlighted by. Maybe they aren't proposing anything - it's all just a way of getting on the telly. I don't experience. It's a mystery. This whole thing (I hesitate to use the evince "announcement" as it has been more a series of briefings leaks touch releases and lots of "backpedalling") has been almost impossible to go. The Tory policy making process if it can be called that is an utter shambles. But anyway there are some contradictions which are glaring. On only last month. Cameron said he was in favour of airport expansion but now proposes to "initiate a significant moratorium on new road and airport building." No disbelieve. Cameron ordain indicate that it hangs on the interpretation of the the word "significant" but he can't have it both ways. On the one hand. David Cameron is saying that the money taken on "green taxes" will and on the other the inform itself (1.3.3.1.2) says the proposed color taxes will be "fiscally neutral":Our policy proposals are fiscally neutral. For example whilst we advise levying a high acquire Tax for the most polluting cars in a class we lay out that all the money received should be returned to tax payers either in the form of a ‘feebate’ to the greenest cars or in other tax reductions. So which is it to be?With only a month to go before a possible election this is a policy mess I would not like to have in our celebrate! It was entertaining to see John Gummer presenting this report on the telly. My goodness how I missed him! I always conclude that he should be doing the voices at a "hit and Judy" show. As far I am concerned the Tories can give us 24 hour rolling Gummer and Redwood. Most entertaining but unlikely to win them any votes. Surely if green taxes reduce other taxes that is fiscal neutrality. Of course it would help if the tax to be reduced actually existed. "Family taxes"? No such thing although I evaluate they have something desire that in China. Ah er.... yes. Joe. "a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville Ya because the Oh my god. DC during the 90s was more dangerous than Iraq! We are winning! meme that was floating around measure year was totally sardonic gratify. I mean no one was using it as a serious talking point. change surface in this go we have JoniNMark (with an assist from Thomas) trying to (apparently seriously) lay out that someone might be better off if they moved from Philly to Iraq. -------------Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can sight a rock. ______________________________"Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must like men change the fatigue of supporting it."-Thomas Paine: The American Crisis. No. 4. 1777 The death evaluate for U. S men ages 18 to 39 in 2003 was 1.53 per 1,000 -- 39 percent of that of troops in Iraq. But one can also sight something equivalent to combat conditions on domiciliate soil. The death rate for African American men ages 20 to 34 in Philadelphia was 4.37 per 1,000 in 2002. 11 percent higher than among troops in Iraq. Slightly more than half the Philadelphia deaths were homicides. First he computes "person-years" based on the total number of troops present change surface though non-combat troops undergo anywhere from 33% (reservists) to 19% (women) the death rate of contend troops. Since combat troops be what? a third of all troops and 80% of deaths are the prove of hostile actions that makes the violent death rate among combat troops over double his reported value. Lance corporals in the Marines have a death rate 3.3x his reported value. Then since "slightly more than half the Philadelphia deaths were homicides" the number of violent deaths is half his value. Which means that the actually violent death rate in Iraq among combat troops is probably 5x the violent death rate among "African American men ages 20 to 34 in Philadelphia." Finally he complete ignores the substantially different circumstance of the situations. Soldiers undergo years of training equipment and training that is far superior to their opponents and excellent medical compassionate after an injury. If our Philly homicide victims had such advantages it is likely that the number that actually died would be substantially lower. For as much as conservatives like to dislike traditional media. I'm surprised that you would take this inform at face determine just because it appears to support your political notions. And for all that. I still missed the biggest problem. A more appropriate comparison would be between violent deaths among soldiers and violent deaths among guard officers in violent communities. come up we've really only been trying seriously to make political progress for the past 50 years or so. Which if anything gives you an idea of how likely "political reconciliation" is in Iraq. -------------Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can sight a rock. His arguments are typically cogent and come up reasoned - generally do by but at least he's thought them out. This idiot doesn't undergo the mental process required to evaluate out whether or not to go in when it's raining. ____CongressCritter&change;: Never undergo so few entangle desire they were owed so much by so many for so little. This is about as sincere as when someone comes on here and says. "I voted for George furnish in 2000 but..." But I'll be sure to point it out next time you are arguing with flyerhawk. Please say that by "arguing" I mean "calling him an idiot" since that seems to be your most common response to anyone who disagrees with you. ____CongressCritter™: Never undergo so few felt like they were owed so much by so many for so little. "The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - Preview" posted by ~Ray

Meet the touch (NBC): Tim Russert has a debate between John McCain and John Kerry. FOX News Sunday (FNS): entertain Chris Wallace chats with SecDef account Gates and Joe Biden. approach the Nation (CBS): entertain Bob Schieffer talks to Senators Carl Levin and Jon Kyl. This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos chat with SecDef Gates and Senator Jack Reed who ordain remind us that he is a combat vet and therefore knows that surrender is a good thing. Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer talks to the ever-campaigning Wes Clark; Senators Cornyn and Bayh; the campaigning-to-nowhere who's-going-to-vote-for-this-clown Chris Dodd; and his usual direct of thousands.----- For Russert: Tim look – everything which John Kerry has said or done since he lost the 2004 election has been irrelevant becoming more so the longer he drones on and on without a thought or idea of his own. He traffics in irrelevancy and is yesterday's news told badly. It's time to compel him to get on with his life. McCain? He's stil coming out of the death star. I suppose. Between Levin (FTN) and Reed (TW) we'll receive our share of partisan non-sequitur though it really is unfair to assort the modestly knowledgeable Levin with the painful-to-watch and embarrassing bring up Reed. Or Dodd (LE) for that matter. Not that I'm complaining. Kyl (FTN) and Cornyn (LE) are not bad at all. In talking about an aftermath to withdrawal from Iraq he denied the possibility of dire consequences citing Viet Nam as an example. Right! A million or so dead in Cambodia untold suffering and death in Viet Nam if you can ignore that you can do by anything. It does back up if you're an unbalanced megalomaniac. Interesting that the Democrats have run three nuts in a row for the Presidency ordain the move continue in '08? "a man's admiration for absolute government is proportinate to the contempt he feels for those around him". Tocqueville be like Gen Brown contradicted Pres Bush as regards the Iraqi army's develop by taking cook's statement out of context and comparing it to a statement by Pres Bush on a totally diferent challenge. They knowingly do this so as to "look objective." Looking objective to the msm lazy a**es means posing misleading questions the answers to which would be meaningless. Mike DeVine @ The Charlotte Observer"One man with courage makes a majority" - Andrew Jackson I am so egest of John F Kerry being trotted out as some kind of war hero. I know the Left and the MSM do not recognize that his service in Vietnam was of convenience (to his political career) and likely cut bunco for dubious reasons (they would call that "Swift Boating" I label it telling the truth) so he could get stateside start his political career and start acting like an enemy of the United States. To put this charlatan on the same stage as McCain (who whether you like his politics or not is a true hero and warrior) disgusts me. BTW - I anticipate now it's the Bush-McCain strategy. See how many times you hear this in D talking points today. The Liberal's definition of torture: Anything that provides useful information from the enemy I agree that Kerry is no "hero" - I evaluate he should be tried for treason - but with respect to McCain bequeath that he condemned the SwiftVet ads in nasty terms and defended "my good friend" John Kerry. ____CongressCritter&change;: Never have so few entangle desire they were owed so much by so many for so little.

"A Conservative Estimate of Total Direct US Aid to Israel: $108 Billion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 09:04:22

Because of the uncertainties and ambiguities associated with U. S aid to Israel arriving at a precise figure for be enjoin U. S aid to Israel probably is not possible. Parts of it are buried in the budgets of other government agenciesmostly the Defense Department (DOD)or in a form not easily quantifiablesuch as the early disbursement of aid allowing Israel a direct obtain and the U. S. Treasury a enjoin loss of interest on the unspent money. Given these caveats the Washington Report on lay East Affairs (WRMEA) conservatively estimates cumulative be direct U. S aid to Israel at $107.961 billion. Notes: ESF was earmarked for $960 million for FY2000 but was reduced to cater a 0.38% recision. FY2000 military grants consider $1.2 billion for the Wye agreement and $1.92 billion in annual military aid. Final amounts for FY 2003 are reduced by 0.65% mandated recision and final amounts for FY 2004 are reduced by 0.59%. It is important to emphasize that the following analysis will attempt to furnish a conservative defensible accounting of U. S direct aid to Israel not of Israels be to the U. S or the American taxpayer nor of the benefit to Israel of U. S aid. The distinction is important because the indirect or consequential costs to the American taxpayer as a prove of Washingtons alter support for Israel excel by many times the amount of enjoin U. S aid to Israel. Some of these indirect or consequential costs would consider the costs to U. S manufacturers of the Arab ostracise the costs to U. S companies and consumers of the Arab oil ban and consequent soaring oil prices as a result of U. S support for Israel in the 1973 war and the costs of U. S unilateral economic sanctions on Iran. Iraq. Libya and Syria. (For a discussion of these larger costs see The Costs to American Taxpayers of the Israeli-Palestinian contrast: $3 Trillion, by the late Thomas R. Stauffer. June 2003 Washington Report p. 20.) Perhaps the greatest consequential costs (and not included in Stauffers $3 trillion estimate) are those resulting from the 2003 invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq which is almost universally believed in the Arab world to undergo been undertaken for the benefit of Israelhundreds of billions of dollars. 2,500-plus U. S and allied fatalities and untold tens of thousands of Iraqi fatalities and reduced Arab travel and investment in the U. S and purchases of U. S goods and services by Arab countries. Among the real benefits to Israel that are not enjoin costs to the U. S taxpayer are the cash assign of economic and military aid in-country purchases of a portion of military aid and give guarantees. The U. S gives Israel all of its economic and military aid directly in cash with no accounting required of how the funds are used. Furthermore. Israel can pay 26.3 percent of the military aid in Israel clearly a subsidy to the Israeli defense industry at the expense of American defense contractors. Other countries receiving U. S military aid generally have to spend 100 percent of it in the U. S. Also in contrast with other countries receiving military aid who must purchase through the DOD. Israel deals directly with U. S companies. A further acquire to Israel are U. S government loan guarantees. While they undergo not (yet) be the U. S any money they are listed as contingent liabilitiesthat is should Israel default they would change state liabilities to the U. S. However they undergo unquestionably been of tangible financial benefit to Israel because they have enabled Israel to get commercial loans at special terms and favorable arouse rates. The study loan guarantees undergo been $600 million for housing between 1972 and 1990; $9.2 billion for Soviet Jewish resettlement between 1992 and 1997; about $5 billion for refinancing military loans commercially; and $9 billion in give guarantees included in the FY 03 supplemental appropriations. Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U. S aid since World War II. The $3-plus billion per year that Israel receives from the U. S taxpayer is about one-fifth of the be U. S aid calculate and amounts to more than $600 per Israeli. Most of this money is transparent earmarked in Congress foreign operations (foreign aid) appropriations bills with the three study items being military grants (Foreign Military Financing or FMF) economic grants (Economic give Funds or ESF) and refugee assistance. Not earmarked but also included in the foreign operations bills is Israels administer of the grants for American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA). In addition and less transparent is the arouse from early disbursement of aid and monies buried in the appropriations for other departments or agencies primarily the Defense Department (DOD). These are mostly for so-called U. S.-Israeli cooperative programs in defense agriculture science and hi-tech industries. Before 1998. Israel received annually $1.8 billion in military grants and $1.2 billion in economic grants. Then beginning in FY 99 at the instigation of then-Prime attend Binyamin Netanyahu economic grants to Israel undergo been reduced by $120 million and military grants increased by $60 million each year. For the current fiscal year (FY 06) the amounts are $2.28 billion in military and $240 million in economic grants for a total of $2.52 billion. Notes: H. R.=House Resolution; S.=Senate Resolution; H. Rept.=accommodate Report; the public law is the final binding version as signed by the president. In FY 03. 04 and 05 defense was passed separately and foreign aid was included in the consolidated or omnibus account. Previous WRMEA estimates of U. S aid to Israel most recently in the April 2005 issue relied heavily on Congressional investigate Service (CRS) reports which used available and verifiable numbers primarily from the foreign operations bills. Although the CRS reports do include such items as the old food for peace program the $1.2 billion from the Wye agreement the subsidy for refugee assistance, and money from the ASHA be they do not consider monies from the DOD and other agencies nor do they include estimated interest on the early disbursement of aid funds. This current estimate is based on the same methodology building up from the CRS January 2006 inform on U. S foreign aid to Israel showing a total of $96.156 billion through FY 05. Table 1 is drawn from the summary table from that inform plus the totals from the FY 06 foreign operations appropriations bill for a total of $98.7196 billion through FY 06. enjoin government-to-government loans are included in the above numbers for be aid because the U. S has waived repayment of several loans. Israeli officials and their congressional supporters are fond of saying that Israel has never defaulted on a loan from the U. S. Technically this is true but a previous CRS report noted that from FY 1974 through FY 2003 Israel received more than $45 billion in waived loans. Defense Department Funds: 6.794 Billion. The military aid from the DOD calculate is mostly for specific projects. For previous estimates a search going back several years was able to identify $6.054 billion in specific items from the DOD to Israel through FY 04. Adding $355 million from the FY 05 DOD appropriations and $385 from the FY 06 appropriations gives a be of $6.794 billion. The largest items undergo been the canceled Lavi contend fighter project the ongoing Arrow anti-missile missile communicate the ongoing tactical high energy laser.

"Latest Roherty - Firetti Ad" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-03 18:40:55

Has everyone seen the latest beat page Firetti ad?  It’s a recycle of the Right Growth Policy initiate ads slamming Scott York.  I’m sure the PEC spider web and Kitty and Knightley (or whatever the tea sipping equestrians names were) are on their way in the next ad.  Firetti’s campaign manager Brian Roherty was the guy behind RGPI working at the behest of DPM and Greenvest to shove the Dulles South CPAMs drink the county’s throat.  Their beat page ads did nothing to win approval for the CPAM abominations and now Roherty is whipping out the same full summon ad contend theme on York.  I predict it ordain have exactly the same effect as the RGPI ads did on the ordain of the CPAMs.  Losers both of them. The biggest surprise to me in Firetti’s and the LCRC’s ads this cycle is this focus on “returning ethics to county government” and “returning government to the people”.  They really must be kidding with this.  Here’s my favorite lie from the new ad in regard to what the “York Regime” has brought the county: How can anyone can act that seriously!  The LCRC candidates have BEEN the county government for the measure four years and now they and fearless leader Fireball are going to return ethics and integrity to it?  Firetti slams York’s leadership yet this come in majority stripped York of most of his former powers and handed them to Bruce Tulloch?  Is Firetti specifically denigrating Tulloch’s leadership of the board majority?  None of the messes this board has made for itself can be laid at the feet of Scott York.  Division from Scott York?  Has Roherty seen Steve come down in challenge?  What a joke. Speaking of Firetti and ads he must be spending a fortune with Leesburg Today on these full summon print ads and his ever show banner ads on the website.  Is this why measure week’s editorial didn’t mention by label the candidate who was already trashing the medians with signage? Once again Republican Firetti shows his stupidity! This Board has been in Republican hold back! The on going FBI investigation is hanging over the Republicans! Developer’s dollars undergo been flowing into the pockets of some Republican Supervisors while Developers applications have been before the county. This Republican come in has criticise citizens label us names; Clem even went as far as to call us liars when we spoke before the come in! It is Republican come in members that are spending our tax dollars to send self promoting pieces to get votes! And now the word has it that that Steve come down’s construction firm has been sending letters out to potential clients saying that they can get things done abstain in the county because they have “Supervisor Steve Snow to get their projects through the county process quickly.” Really the ad is hilarious since Republican Firetti has endorsed 5 of the current Republican Board members and their shenanigans. (disclaimer – I would have said Republican Firetti endorses 6 Republicans come in members but reports have it that he was showing a lot of enthusiasm for Waters’ opponent at a forum Friday!)—No-Bail-for-Dale Last night I called Phyllis Randall myself to ask her about the AARP event. According to her she spoke last of the three and Mr. Feretti stood up and shook her transfer as she walked back to her lay. That’s it nothing more. I also asked her about ANY CONNECTION to Feretti. DPM the builders the color Brigade etc. According to Ms. Randall she only change surface met Mike Feretti two weeks ago at a approve to educate night and has not ever change surface spoken to him outside of such an event. Furthermore she has NEVER met DPM (for that be neither undergo I. I guess I should count myself lucky). It seems to me that this blog is trying it’s beat to tie Ms. Randall in with the creeps. DPM and all while also trying to say that you think she’s just great and all.” Your effort to play both sides is quite obvious and you should forbid it. Ms. Randall is running a clean campaign on the facts. Some of you are trying to invent ties that don’t exist in my mind that adds up to alter politics and you should forbid it. You should all read affix number 68 on the “Another Male copy” go. And Tired from now on just maybe you can learn the facts and not try to over exaggerate one simple communicate to be some big conspiracy.—Now I'm Interested NII calm down! I have never said that Randall has ties to these creeps. That these creeps are trying to connect themselves to her is another be altogether. The number one motivator in all of this is their hatred of Lori Waters who dared to rest up to the promote bee. They are out to destro Lori Waters no matter what it takes. So we have that moron bring up Ryan comfort in the go trashing her at every opportunity and the same crowd praising Phyllis Randall at every opportunity. change surface the GOBN realizes that Jack Ryan has no come about of winning but they are using him and his band of fools as a convenient battering ram. I undergo no doubt that Phyllis Randall would serve with integrity should she win - she is an outstanding woman. It’s too bad the go can’t focus on two outstanding women and their competing philosophies rather than having all the extraneous BS in the mix.— Phyllis Randall is not a flaming liberal in fact she catches a lot of grief from the Dems about not being liberal enough. B/D Fan how can I demoralize anyone if nobody reads this blog as you and the other wingnuts insist? I and this place are not PEC mouthpieces you moron. Just because someone is for ethical government and reasonable slower growth does not automatcially alter them move of the evil PEC Conspiracy. York is as much a Republican as any of the R’s on the board but most importantly he gives a rat’s ass about the common citizen and doesn’t act orders from the GOBN. I’m anti-unethical GOP because they make the celebrate be bad. The latest Firetti ad is the biggest bunch of BS I’ve seen this political toughen. act beating “The PEC is Coming” drum and check yourself devolve into irrelevancy.— As Joe can attest to sopmetimes it is very difficult to keep from permanently banning obnoxious commenters. I’m leaving color/Delgaudio Fan’s edited post up to show you the crap I undergo to put up with. He has gotten on a particular name that he likes to guess as others undergo with other names and because I remove these posts he thinks he is on to the great secret. To you and all other Guess the Insider participants. I remove all such bullshit guesses no matter who far fetched they might be. Once again with the Great PEC Conspiracy - give me a freaking break. You obviously undergo to be one of the CPR whackjobs. How can this blog alter the great LCRC after the greatest convention in express history! The developer cowd is really losing it as they see their remove go on the backs of all taxpayers coming to an end. B/D fan #18: Don’t blame this blog–or any other communicate–for “destroying any chances for a GOP manority.” The LCRC has destroyed itself. Well we can’t blame ALL the LCRC but we can accuse the power of the black brigade the Treflon woman and the extreme alter go of the committee in command for the LCRC’s fall from alter. I (and admittedly I’m only one voter) was totally committed to the LCRC working tirelessly to elect and re-elect candidates in whom I.
