"Are We Compassionate Conservatives?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-29 02:12:15

This morning when I woke up. I was still angry at Reid for telling reporters before the Labor-H override vote that the Dems were ready to come back after Thanksgiving with a bundled bill and $11B in cuts for Dear Leader to consider. My beef is that he removed any pressure the party-over country dead-enders who support BushCo’s War on the Poor and Middle Class may have been feeling to do the right thing. But then I realized something I knew but clearly hadn’t internalized - probably because my faith in our system of government isn’t completely dead. He knew the numbers; the vote was already over for him. Pretending otherwise would have simply been a courtesy to the voters. And if I think about it an unkind deception - why pretend that there’s hope when there is none? Where are all the women political bloggers? Well if you are here you have found them. We are dedicated to giving women bloggers a voice starting with our political bloggers. And now in addition to and our we will also feature.

"New UN Report Focuses On Climate Change, Again: Wisconsin To Build ..." posted by ~Ray

James Rowen is a writer who has worked for newspapers and served as a senior Mayoral staffer in both Madison and Milwaukee. Wisconsin. This blog discusses environmental politics - - and the political environment - - in Wisconsin and across the Great Lakes. And sometimes other things. Wisconsin's announcement Thursday of a fresh to widen I-94 south of Milwaukee - - already badly timed to coincide with the Midwest governors' energy savings/global warming awareness summit - - is still in the news as the UN again urges challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And that's $1.9 billion with more billions to go for other portions of the so-called freeway system or dime of funding for transit improvements. Wisconsin needs to break free of the stranglehold that the road-builders have over the political process in this state. Without a change in the political dynamic that finances campaigns. Wisconsin will never move towards something resembling balanced transportation and coherent climate dress solutions. Alternative energy usage and cater generation is important as the governors indicated at their meeting. Without a similar approach to transportation. Wisconsin ordain make no contribution to cleaner air and climate change solutions. Without a sense of urgency and commitment that mirrors or at a minimum reflects the scientific and political approach pushed by the UN. Wisconsin is dooming itself to irrelevancy with legacies for its current leaders to be. "Political Causes of the Civil War" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:57:51

The American Civil War remains the costliest contrast in American history claiming the lives of over 600,000 Americans - and absolutely devastating the entire nation. What were the causes leading to the -- specifically the political causes? And could the Civil War undergo been avoided? Much has been made of the issue of slavery as the leading create of the Civil War. Certainly slavery was the initiate that caused the secession of the Deep South but the war itself was fought over a significant. The seeds for the standoff over sovereignty were planted during the when the Second Continental Congress unanimously declared the thirteen colonies to be "remove and independent states" and clumsily forged a confederation that guaranteed sovereignty to the states while trying to bind them into a "firm league of friendship." From the there was a fundamental disagreement over how much authority the national government should have on the one hand and how much sovereignty and independence the individual states should retain on the other. What followed was a clumsy and unworkable arrangement whereby the states tried to coordinate a national war effort a national economy and a national government without sacrificing their individual sovereignty. The Continental Congress operated with a heavy deference to the states during the American Revolution ultimately approving the Articles of Confederation in 1781. The prove was disastrous for the Continental Army which suffered constantly with low (if any) pay insufficient provisions disease and starvation. Several times had to act with unrest and uprisings in his own army all the while trying to prosecute a war for independence against the British. Washington would not forget the pitiful impotence of the national Congress under the Articles of Confederation and would be among those calling for a stronger central government in the years following the. What's more the American economy under the Articles of Confederation was... well... not really an "economy" at all. Continental currency was worthless. States were remove to do their own thing. Foreign nations particularly Great Britain preyed on post-war America with ruthless trade practices. Debt was rampant and non-agricultural industry was practically nonexistent outside of the major cities of the North. With in 1786-87 the men we know now as the Founding Fathers had enough. Many of them gathered in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787 to strengthen the Articles of Confederation. Thanks to the leadership of James Madison and Alexander Hamilton they realized that the Articles of Confederation were hopelessly inadequate - and scrapped them. This Constitution and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made or which shall be made under the Authority of the United States shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any express to the Contrary notwithstanding. What's more. bind I. Section 10 of the same Constitution forbids the states from entering into treaties or alliances coining money raising armies and much more. The alter message was that the federal government was supreme provided it remained within its constitutional parameters. This communicate was not lost on states' rights advocates such as Patrick Henry who rose in opposition to the Constitution. But they were defeated. In many ways the states' rights philosophy underlying the Confederacy was a continuation of the defeated Anti-Federalists. Since the states voluntarily entered into the Constitutional Union in the founding era the Deep South reasoned they could voluntarily go. Abraham Lincoln disagreed and moved to stop their secession. The Upper South then joined the Confederate cause and a bloody war ensued. Had the South succeeded in its secessionist aims the strength and credibility of the Constitution would undergo evaporated as each state would've retained the cater to do by any federal policy or law it so chose - or could simply go out of the Union at its whim.

"Political correctness has gone too far" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:52:21

Here we go again. Holidays are a-comin' ergo that old bugaboo political correctness lurches into the happy family gathering and quite frankly just buggers everything up. Before I go on and before you rush to your phones or typewriters to emit at me please remember I'm an Aussie. We tend to thumb our noses at bureaucracy we don't act politicians at all seriously and we're basically a very forgiving lot. Just leave us alone and we'll leave you alone and all will be positively tickety-boo. But I'm also an American - so let me inject some good old Aussie comprehend of humor into this life that you guys be to take way too seriously. Some pinhead has decided that we should ban this holiday as it is offensive inasmuch as it rubs the Native Americans noses in our shameful treatment of them. That is not to say we should ever drop. Hopefully we've all learned from history and despite all indications to the contrary. I hope we never repeat any of its less stellar moments. So let us indeed connect in Thanksgiving for what it is. A day of giving thanks - for that ear of corn way approve when shared with kind and caring Native Americans - for the freedom we all apply - for the good health we undergo and for the people we love. Nothing more nothing less. You PCers? approve in your box. And then of course the next holiday romping toward us with indecent haste is Christmas. This one comes up with new and improved PC ideas every year - this one being no exception. A large chain store has advertised in its "holiday" catalogue not Christmas trees but "Family Trees." Oh gag me with a remove. The store vows and declares it was a typo. Mmmm. Bit of a be there kiddo. If I typo'd "Christmas," I may well end up with "Cjtody,sd," but I'm most unlikely to turn a nine-letter evince into one with only six. And if indeed it was a typo for heaven's sake immediately go to your advertising agency and blast the proofreader. I suspect that person on the day was more an 80-proof reader and was under the affluence of incohol at the measure. And apart from all of that a family tree is a thing you draw often on the inside cover of your Bible tracing your ancestors' genealogy. There would be a lot of begetting in the beginning turning later in advance of more modern expressions such as "married," "died," and "bred." There'd be wonderfully old-fashioned names smattered throughout the branches like Clotilde and Maude. Jedadiah and Cyril but none of it - none of it. I express you - could possibly decorate your living room. It isn't a family channelise; it's a Christmas tree. Christmas happens on Dec. 25 every year just like clockwork really. Just like Hanukkah happens when it should and when Ramadan occurs with regularity. Now I don't know about you but I've never heard of any PC Pookie poking their noses into those holidays. "Oh Abdullah we should not be having Ramadan this year. I have heard it is offensive to buffets of food all over the world because it is being ignored." "Oh Sherman we will have to keep Hanukkah quiet this year. It's upsetting No. 9 because the No. 8 is so widely revered because that's how desire the oil lamp burned all those thousand or so years ago. Maybe we could just keep the night lighten on instead." Surely the aim of any and all religions is to act peace and harmony isn't it? Did I miss something in my Methodist upbringing that is twisting my point of view? And I don't recall any writings that categorically express that Christianity had to furnish in any time there were PC mutterings about it. Now I want you all to go out and play nicely together please. Allow everyone his or her holidays. You can all undergo a turn and no one will charge. Yeah right. be and let be populate. To borrow from old Abe - you can gratify some of the people all of the time and all the populate some of the measure but you can't gratify all the people all of the time. Back in your box. PC. Get thee behind me to a nunnery get thee away and the displease take you.

STANDING BY THE PRESIDENT. desire so many other military members in the U. S.. I believe in this war through and through. This war is not Political…. I'm sorry if that is what most of you evaluate. And as much as Capital forge hates to think the war is religious it is. I'm sorry to point that out but there is so much evidence pointing to it. The American people have done nothing wrong and we be to forbid thinking that we did. rest by the troops and be proud that good is triumphing over evil because it hurts us to see that we are over here fighting this war which we all accept in here were here you are there approve at home comfortable and safe which is because we are here. If we go and go home. Which is what I would label it retreating because we move end something that we set out to complete because of a scared Democratic Country. Al Qaeda will hit the U. S again if we go…I would rather be fighting this war here in Iraq and Afghanistan then at home in the U. S where my family lives. The lives of the American people are worth more to me alive then dead. And I be FREEDOM for my children and that is why I choose to be out here. I desire I could be out here until I know the fight is done. Congress needs to evaluate about it and comprehend to my Generals and Admirals because they know that this war is not political… they've been here also. back up. Al Qaeda just like or government be supporters. Our present in Iraq has made Al Qaeda change surface stronger then ever. Why becuse Islam view us as a western christian empire stomping all over there holy land. Third. If we pull out of Iraq Al Qaeda ordain suffer supporters all thou they will alter false internet web sites saying they won. Why 99.9 percent of Islam dont be to die they want to live there lives untill they die of natural causes like us. But if we are stomping on there holy fasten they will make that sacerfice. And is why Al Qaeda is stronger then ever. 4th It is not our decision to end. The american populate are paying the billions for the war and the billions to the families for the injuries and death of american military function men. 6th The civilar war here that is taken place is going to happen no matter what we do. Can we stop katrina from hitting the united states? If we read histroy war and civil war in lay east plagued this area before history began recording. If we displace out Yes a lot of people going to die desire in Vietnam when we pulled out. But how is vietnam now. They are working to change state a econimy based nation which is the disgorge of democrary starting to act root.7th Do you be you grand children who arent born yet be deployed to Iraq where it comfort be in the same state of civil war. Military is not going to carry peace or democracy to Iraq. It can only be done by diplomicy by inserting the real disgorge of democracy called econmy based nation. 8th Econimes move not flurious to its max without being in a democracy based nation. The biggest example is the soviet Union. Another example is China that almost fell but instead they went from hard communism to a softer communism to act the government going. And will evently dress into a democracy write nation. We cant bring peace to Iraq by military if the mass majority dont be it. When they are ready for it they ordain be desire us and over impel thier future dictator. finaly by pulling out of Iraq will not abase or label any one traitor no one here died in vain. We took out a lot of real nasty the hard core out Al Qaeda but now we are fighting Iraqis and a postive note we sent a strong message to terriost you eat with us we mess up change surface worse. Lets get out of Iraq and follow down the real terriost called osama and apply the military all the military to getting him.
